Purpose: Acknowledging that compelling arguments exist for both positions, the purpose of this paper is to speak on behalf of clinician-investigations. More specifically the paper will: (1) provide a rationale for clinicians 1 to become clinician-investigators; (2) delineate qualifications of a clinician-investigator; and (3) outline the procedures for conducting a clinical investigation.
