Abstract

The motivation to achieve in oral myofunctional therapy may be determined in large measure by the clarity with which the client perceives the therapy program. When the path to a goal is clear the goal is perceived as attainable and the motivation to achieve the goal is heightened. The lack of clarity, however, may result in confusion and deflated motivation. The clinican's role in increasing and sustaining client motivation by shaping the client's perception of the process of goal attainment is discussed.
